It seems to me more and more that we live in an entitlement society. This isn't meant to be a political post so don't read it that way. This is just an observation. With increased technology and quality of life we as a people including myself believe that we 'need' certain things we don't necessarily need. I think in part it has to do with how we are raised. For instance, smart phones. Kids today and almost everyone feels entitled to have a smartphone which besides being expensive to purchase they are expensive to maintain. I fall in this category myself because I am actually writing this blog from my smartphone. Most houses have a least a few TVs and an internet connection not to mention WiFi. We require cars, nice clothes, and other things. But do we really need them? People argue all the time they need something but do they really. And then we need the most newest thing because we are conned with warranties and ensured they are more reliable. Its amazing the stuff we 'need' depreciates so rapidly. I'm in the same boat I've fallen for these myths myself thinking I need something but honestly I just want it and I normally want it because someone else has it. This isn't meant say people shouldn't have nice things but more to the point that we don't need them. We aren't entitled to them. But as a nation we feel we are entitled to these things which is dangerous. It drives a gap between rich and poor. Why you ask. I will tell you. Debt. Debt is the ultimate gap between rich and poor. Because we feel we are entitled the other 98% as it were go into debt because we are "entitled" to have these things. We deserve to live exactly like the rich. Its dangerous mindset because instead of money working for us things and money works against us. Live in a piece of a house or an apartment. Have a used car. Don't use a cell phone. You be surprised by how much money you have at the end of the month. Don't tell me it can't be done because I did it. Not to mention I know people who still do. We as a nation have become a finger pointing nation. We say the rich or the food stamps is the reason why we are in the financial situation we are in but I can't control that. And a lot our own problems including financial are caused 99% if not 100% by the person staring us in the mirror in the morning.
